18,132 fresh Covid-19 cases recorded, highest recovery rate since March 2020

Mumbai: India has reported 18,132 fresh Covid-19 cases and 193 deaths in the past 24 hours. The current recovery rate is at 97.99%; the highest since March 2020.

The active cases have declined to 2,27,347, the lowest in 209 days, according to the data updated this morning. The daily test positivity rate – the number of positive cases identified per 100 – stands at 1.75 percent, less than 3 percent for the last 42 days. The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.53 percent.

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed the 94 crore mark, with 66,85,415 vaccine doses administered on Sunday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. India has so far administered 94,70,10,175 COVID-19 vaccines.

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 2,294 fresh Covid cases and 28 fatalities. During the same period, 1,823 patients recovered from the infection, according to the state’s health bulletin.

Jammu and Kashmir is on track to achieve the milestone of 100 percent first dose Covid vaccine coverage this week.

Kerala recorded 10,691 new Covid-19 cases and 85 related fatalities on Sunday. The state currently has 1,11,083 active Covid cases while the test positivity rate stands at 13.05 percent.

Tamil Nadu added 1,329 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday which pushed the overall caseload in the state to 26,78,265. With 15 related fatalities, the death count rose to 35,783.

Except for Bengal, other major states see a dip in new cases. This week’s tally of fresh cases was the lowest since March 1-7, when 1.1 lakh infections were detected at a time when the second wave was beginning in India. The week saw cases fall in all major states with the lone exception of Bengal, where a marginal spike of 5% was recorded, as per the daily data received from states.

Vaccination for kids

ZyCoV-D, the first vaccine to be approved for use in children in the age group of 12-17 in India, will also be made available to private sector hospitals across the country. The Centre’s supply principle in the ratio of 75:25 for public and private vaccination will remain applicable for this vaccine as well. ZyCoV-D is going to be introduced in the country’s Covid vaccination programme by October 20.

India restarts vaccine exports in tune with ‘Neighbourhood First’ mantra

India has pressed the restart button to supply Covid-19 vaccines along with initial supplies in this round to the neighbourhood. It is learnt that India has recently sent Covid vaccines to Iran, Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh. Both Bangladesh and Iran each received one million doses of “Made-in-India” vaccines
