26,727 fresh cases recorded today, 13% higher than yesterday

Mumbai: India reported 26,727 fresh cases on Friday. There was 13 %increase from yesterday when the country had recorded 23,529 cases. 277 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, the total deaths to 4,48,339.

The total number of coronavirus cases has reached 3,37,66,707 in India. However, the active cases comprise 0.82 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020 — the active caseload at present is 2,75,224, lowest in 196 days.

The daily positivity rate – number of positive cases identified per 100 – stands at 1.76 per cent, less than 3 per cent for last 32 days. The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.70 per cent.

India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 89 crore doses — 69 per cent of the country’s adult population has received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 25 per cent has taken both doses, the government said.

A total of 57,04,77,338 samples tested for Covid-19 up to 30th September 2021. Of these, 15,20,899 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research.

Maharashtra reported 3,063 new Covid-19 cases and 56 deaths, taking the infection tally to 65,50,856 and the death count to 1,39,067.

Kerala reported 15,914 fresh cases on Thursday, up from 12,161on the previous day. The spike raised the day’s all-India Covid count to 27,363, the highest in five days. There were 276 deaths from the virus reported in the country on Thursday.

September is only the fourth month to record a death rate below 1%, the other months being February (0.78%), March (0.52%) and April (0.7%). The CFR during the second Covid wave so far (March to September 2021) stands at 1.29%, as opposed to 1.41% in the first wave (March 2020 to February 2021).

West Bengal has extended the ongoing Covid restrictions till October 30 but allowed movement of people and vehicles at night during the Durga Puja festival from October 10 to 20. Bengal’s COVID-19 tally rose to 15,69,070 as 749 more people tested positive, while 15 fresh fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death count to 18,793.
Delhi recorded zero death due to COVID-19 and 47 new cases with a positivity rate of 0.06 per cent — the number of active cases now stands at 400.
