30 injured in Assam, Karimganj bridge collapse

Karimganj: Atleast 30 students have been injured after a bridge in Kamirganj, Assam collapsed. Students were returning home from school.

The incident took place on Monday in the Cheragi area under Ratabari assembly constituency.

According to reports, this was the only bridge that connected Cheragi and village. The hanging bridge on the Singla river is being used for the past several years to reach other areas and schools.

On Monday, when the students of Cheragi Vidyapith High School tried to cross the Singla river, the hanging bridge suddenly collapsed and many students fell into the river.

At least 30 students were reportedly injured in the incident and they were admitted to a nearby hospital.

Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the students from the river.

Villagers said that the hanging bridge was constructed three years back.
