4 Migrants Heading to Home Killed In Accidents

4 migrants were killed in 3 different accidents in Uttar Pradesh & Haryana. There has been a number of accidents in recent days that have killed migrants.

New Delhi| Four migrants travelling thousands of kilometres to their homes amid the national lockdown to curb COVID-19, have been killed in separate road accidents since last evening.

The four dead include a woman and her daughter.

The woman and her daughter were part of a group travelling between Maharashtra and Jaunpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh. They had travelled 1,300 km in an auto-rickshaw for three days. They were hit by a truck just short of their destination, in Fatehpur, UP.

A migrant worker from Bihar was killed and another injured in another incident this morning, after being hit by a speeding car in Haryana. Cycling home, a fourth migrant, was killed last night in Rae Bareli.

This morning, two migrants were walking on a road at Ambala Cantt in Haryana when they were hit by an SUV. One died on the spot while the other is in the hospital with serious injuries.

The workers were on their way to Bihar, the police said. The car allegedly swerved at a high speed and went out of control. The driver is missing but the car has been seized.

Lakhs of migrant workers left jobless by the national lockdown due to COVID-19 since late March have been walking, cycling or hitching rides, desperate to reach home despite a prohibition on public transport or interstate migration.
