New Delhi| The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has alleged that the institute Administration and corporate social responsibility (CSR) section have redirected Rs. 50 lakh from Bharat Dynamics under the Ministry of Defence to PM-CARES fund, the amount that was originally assigned for buying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for doctors and staff.
The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund, which is a public charitable trust with PM and other key union ministers having membership of the trust, was set up to gather resources in response to the coronavirus crisis in the country.
The association has also complained that the hostel superintendent has failed to arrange accommodation despite clear instruction to cut travel time of doctors working in the COVID-19 facilities.
AIIMS RDA general secretary T. Srinivas Rajkumar on Thursday said, “We met with the administration on Wednesday and told them about our concerns and requested that all personal protection equipment will have to meet the safety standards prescribed by the Health Ministry and that neither doctors nor other patients should be put at risk of catching the infection. “Jugaad” PPE will not work.”
He also stressed that the funds being redirected is a serious issue.
The RDA has also complained that the Hostel Superintendent has failed to arrange accommodation for the resident doctors despite repeated instructions from the administration to make the stay for the doctors comfortable who have to travel from far for the work.
The AIIMS RDA has also written to central government about the attack on doctors in Hyderabad’s Gandhi hospital who were treating COVID-19 patients.
“It is extremely disheartening to know that such events continue unabated even when this country is going through this massive pandemic. Such actions would destroy the morale of frontline healthcare workers deployed in such a testing situation,” AIIMS RDA said in its letter.
