The Centre will procure 75% of the vaccines and will be given to individuals above 18 free of cost. The price for private hospital’s procurement (25%) will be decided by the vaccine maker.
A day after Prime Minister Modi’s speech wherein he announced 75% vaccine procurement by the Centre, the government has issued fresh guidelines for the new vaccination policy which will come in effect from 21st June 2021.

As per the revised policy, 75% of the vaccines will be procured by the Government of India, will be distributed to states free of cost for those above the age of 18 according to parameters such as population, disease burden, and the progress of vaccination. Wastage of vaccine will affect the allocation negatively.
The vaccination drive will be prioritized in the following order: Health Care Workers, Front Line Workers, Citizens above 45 years of age, Citizens whose second dose is due, Citizens 18 years & above. The policy also gives the power to States/UTs may decide their own prioritization factoring in the vaccine supply schedule.

The remaining 25% of vaccine procurement by private hospitals will continue to function as it is. As mentioned by the Prime Minister, private hospitals can only charge a maximum of Rs 150 as a service charge. The price for this procurement will be decided by the vaccine maker.
The policy also says “All government & private vaccination centers would also provide an onsite registration facility, available both for individuals as well as groups of individuals, for which detailed procedure is to be finalized and published by States/UTs, in order to minimize any inconvenience to citizens.”
