With 78,512 Covid-19 Cases In 24 Hours, India Continues To Record Highest Daily Surge Across The World

India yesterday set a record when it reported 78,761 new infections in 24 hours — the world’s highest single-day rise.

In the last 24 hours, 78,512 new coronavirus infections were reported in India, slightly fewer than the previous day when it posted the biggest, single-day tally of infections of any country in the pandemic. As the infection continues to rise rapidly in the country, the total cases have reached 36,21,245, the union health ministry said this morning. With 971 deaths due to the infections virus in the last 24 hours, the death toll due to Covid-19 has reached 64,469, the health ministry data showed.

With a 76.62 recovery rate, 27,74,802 people have already recovered from the infection. There are 7,81,975 active coronavirus cases in the country currently. The union health ministry said the active cases amount to 21.59% of total caseload in the country.

“It is important that every citizen is healthy and happy and we defeat coronavirus completely together,” PM Modi said while addressing his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.

“Corona(virus) can only be defeated when you remain safe when you fulfill the resolve of keeping a safe distance of two yards and wearing masks,” he further added.
