83% Of Coronavirus Infected in India Are Below 50 : Health Ministry Data

Senior Citizens, who are above 60 and usually fall within an age group with high risk for the viral infection, have only 17% cases among all the positive cases of coronavirus.

Mumbai| The Union Health Ministry confirmed on Sunday that most cases of coronavirus infected people found in India are within the age of 21 to 40.

In a briefing held on Sunday about the Coronavirus situation in India, the health ministry informed that the analysis of data shows that 42% of people infected by the coronavirus belong to the age group of 21-40.

The next most affected age group is of 41-50 years old, comprising around 33% of total positive cases in India so far.

Senior Citizens, who are above 60 and usually fall within an age group with high risk for the viral infection, have only 17% cases among all the positive cases of coronavirus reported in India till now.

Only 9 % of those below the age of 20 have been found infected by the virus, the health ministry informed.

Although the fatality rate has remained mostly in the age group above 60.

The Joint Secretary to Union Health Ministry, Lav Aggarwal, informed about the age analysis of coronavirus infected patients in a briefing held on Sunday.

Total coronavirus cases across India have crossed 2900 on Saturday, the Union Health Ministry informed.

The new virus from the Sars family, named Sars-CoV-2, spreads through the respiratory droplets of people infected by the virus. India has imposed a 21-day lockdown after the cases started going up in India.

Earlier, it was reported that the people aged above 60 are more susceptible to catch the virus. However, the data by the health ministry confirms that individuals belonging to any age group can get infected with the virus, though the fatality is less in the other age groups than the senior citizens.

Health ministry also informed that 83 % of total coronavirus infected people in India are below the age of 50.
