New Delhi| An FIR has been lodged against unknown person in connection with the horrific fire that took place at AIIMS Hospital last evening. The FIR has been lodged by the AIIMS administration at Hauz Khas police station. A massive fire broke out at AIIMS last evening. The fire was the biggest in the history of the hospital. The fire started at around 5 pm from the Microbiology department.
Though, the fire did not cause any casualties, the medical reports and samples from the Teaching Block were destroyed. The Virology department has also been completely gutted. At least 34 fire tenders were rushed to the spot as the blaze spread to five floors. The fire was brought under control in the morning.

The AIIMS administration has registered a case against unknown people under IPC 336, IPC 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house etc.) and IPC 285 i.e. fire. The police has started investigating the entire case. At the same time, the forensic team of Fire Department will inspect the building and submit its report to Delhi Police.
The news of fire created panic among patients. However, they were safely evacuated. Former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS in Cardio Neuro Center. However, he is in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which is in another building.
It is being said that Union Minister of State for Health Ashwani Kumar Choubey will also be reaching the hospital. He will inspect the site of damage caused by the fire at the hospital and will also meet former Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
