Allegedly Beaten By TMC Workers, Elderly Woman Passes Away

The BJP’s worker’s mother Shova Majumdar, who was allegedly beaten up by some Trinamool activists last month, has passed away.

The BJP’s worker’s mother Shova Majumdar, who was allegedly beaten up by some Trinamool activists last month, has passed away. The passing away of 85-year-old’s death immediately sparked a war of words today, with the BJP playing on the Trinamool’s favourite slogan and saying “Ma, Mati, Manush” had been bloodied. The ruling TMC responded saying the opposition party is “peddling a narrative”.

Home Minister Amit Shah, tweeting about the same, said: “Anguished over the demise of Bengal’s daughter Shova Majumdar ji, who was brutally beaten by TMC goons. The pain & wounds of her family will haunt Mamata didi for long. Bengal will fight for a violence-free tomorrow, Bengal will fight for a safer state for our sisters & mothers.”

The saffron party, on February 28, had said that Trinamool members had thrashed Ms Majumdar, mother of its 24 Parganas district worker Gopal Majumdar. However, the TMC had called the incident “fabricated”.

The elderly woman breathed her last early this morning, news agency ANI reported.

Last month, on social media platforms, the BJP workers had shared the video of Ms Majumdar, narrating her painful experience with a badly swollen face.

Home Minister Amit Shah, in his tweet today, posted the photo of her body wrapped in a BJP flag. Party chief JP Nadda, too, tweeted his condolences in Hindi, saying Ms Majumdar was “Bengal’s mother and daughter”.

Trinamool leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien tweeted in response to the BJP’s allegations.

“The death of Shova Majumdar is a tragedy.
What is totally unfortunate though is the Home Min peddling a narrative when the incident is under investigation. He heads a Police Force & multiple Central Agencies. Shouldn’t he show some respect to the investigative process of India!,” Mr O’Brien said.
