Amarinder Singh Likely To Launch New Party Today

Chandigarh : Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh is likely to launch his new political party in Chandigarh on Wednesday, according to speculation triggered by the announcement of a press conference.

Singh had last week said he would soon launch his own party, and that he was hopeful of a seat arrangement with the Bharatiya Janata Party provided the ongoing farmers’ stir against farm laws was resolved in their interest.

The development comes just months ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.

Singh, who faced an unceremonious exit from the state government last month, had also said that he was looking at alliances with like-minded parties such as breakaway Akali groups.

The two-time chief minister had added that he would not rest till he secures the future of people and his state.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday, however, said if Amarinder Singh floated a new political outfit, he would be making a big mistake.

Singh’s face in Punjab will be scarred, Randhawa said, and added that the Congress gave respect to Amarinder Singh and he enjoyed several posts in the party.

Randhawa has been attacking Amarinder Singh over his friendship with Pakistani journalist Aroosa Alam. He even went to the extent of saying that a probe would be carried out to ascertain if Alam has links with Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, too attacked Amarinder Singh over the issue of his new political party.

Congress Leader Navjyot Kaur Sidhu on Tuesday asserted that none of the Congress members will join Amarinder’s party except for those who own him a favor or might have got one from him.

“I don’t think any Congress MLA will leave and join Amarinder Singh’s party. If he gave favours to anyone then they might go,” she said.

When she was questioned about the Former Punjab Chief Minister’s ‘new political party,’ she said that those who are really attached to the Congress, will never leave the party.

She took a dig at the former chief minister, saying that despite getting all the freedom from the Congress, Amarinder did not trusted any of the worker with power. She questions, “He was given all the freedom by the party but he didn’t give power to any worker, never openly met any minister or MLA. Who will trust him?”

“It would’ve been best for him if he had joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). It would’ve laid people’s suspicion to rest and he would’ve been able to win a few seats,” Navjot Kaur further added.
