Amid Punjab Crisis Rahul Gandhi Visits Kerala To Douse The Fire Within State Congress Unit

Thiruvananthapuram : Congress MP Rahul Gandhi flew to Kerala this morning. During his visit to Kozhikode and Malappuram he will he will interact with constituents and inaugurate projects. The party is battling leadership crisis at Punjab where Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned.

According to those familiar with the development, Gandhi will be visiting his parliamentary constituency of Wayanad today, and his visit is likely aimed at attempting to douse the fire within the Kerala Pradesh Congress unit.

The Congress leader will be laying the foundation stone and inaugurating various developmental projects during his visit. “He will be inaugurating the HIMA Dialysis Center in Malappuram and a recreation center for senior citizens in Kozhikode,’ said sources. Sources also added that Rahul Gandhi will also be laying the foundation stone of AIMER Business School in Kozhikode.

According to reports, Rahul Gandhi has three programmes scheduled for Wednesday at his parliamentary constituency of Wayanad, from where he was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2019 elections. After staying back at Kozhikode, the Congress leader will be flying back to Delhi on Thursday.

Rahul’s Kerala visit comes during the on-going leadership crisis at Punjab. It’s one of the few state which Congress controls and one out of seven to witness government elections next year.

Questions have been raised over the Rahul’s visit. The questions rise because Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra both are away from Delhi and because of Sidhu’s resignation.

The Congress stated that “everything is fine at Punjab” despite of Navjot Singh Sidhu and Razia Sultana one of the new Cabinet Minister’s resignation . Senior Leader KC Venugopal, had said that there is nothing to worry, everything will be all right.

If Sidhu does not takes back his resignation Congress has a ‘plan b.’ Reports state that either the Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra or the Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu will be selected as a replacement of Sidhu.

The Congress’ dwindling sway over state-level politics is concerning ahead of the 2024 general election, and the party had hoped Sidhu’s appointment after the Gandhi family overruled Amarinder Singh’s objections, which would steady the ship ahead of the Assembly election.

Veteran Congress leader Amarinder Singh quit as Chief Minister 10 days ago, after a prolonged and bitter feud with Sidhu over several issues.
