Amid Vaccine Shortage In Some States, “Tika Utsav” Kick Starts From Today

Prime Minister Modi said, “This celebration (Tika Utsav) is, in a way, the beginning of another major war against Coronavirus.”

The second wave of Coronavirus has wreaked a havoc in India. It has been three months since India began inoculating its population. Earlier, in the first two phases, the front line workers and elderly were vaccinated. In the third phase, all Indians above 45 years of age are being vaccinated. In order to speed up the vaccination campaign in the country, PM Modi had called for “Tika Utsav” to be held. The “Vaccine Festival”has begun today. The purpose of this festival is to motivate more and more people in the country to get vaccinated. The “Tika Utsav” will be held in the country from April 11 to April 14.

Ahead of the beginning of the vaccination drive, PM Modi appealed the people to follow 4 formulas – help those who need vaccinations, help people in coronavirus treatment, wear masks and inspire others to do so, if a person is found positive, then create a micro containment zone for it.

PM Modi wrote on his website, “Today, on April 11 i.e. Jyotiba Phule Jayanti, we are starting the ‘Tika Utsav’. This ‘Tika Utsav’ will run till 14 April i.e. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti.”

He added, “This celebration is, in a way, the beginning of another major war against Corona. In this we have to give special emphasis on Physical Hygiene as well as Social Hygiene.”

PM Modi has made these four appeals-

Each One- Vaccinate One: Those who are unaware, elderly, who cannot get vaccinated themselves, help them.
Each One- Treat One: People who do not have the same resources, who are not privileged, help them in the treatment of coronavirus.
Each One- Save One: One should himself/herself wear a mask and inspire others to wear a mask too.

Micro-Containment Zone: In case a person is found Coronavirus positive, the people of the society should lead the creation of a ‘Micro Containment Zone’. Where there has been a single case of infection, the people of the family, the people of the society should create a ‘Micro Containment Zone’.

Vaccine Shortage In Maharashtra, Rajasthan

While states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are gearing up for “Tika Utsav”, several other states in the country have complained of vaccine shortage. States like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand complained that they are facing a shortage of vaccines, while reports emerged from several other states that vaccine centres were shutting early or turning people away due to supplies running out.

However, Union health minister Harsh Vardhan has said the country has enough doses and urged state governments to put an end to ā€œfear-mongering.ā€
