Arnab Goswami Moves Supreme Court, Seeks Stay On FIRs Filed Against Him in Five States

Arnab Goswami has asked for no coercive measures should be taken on the FIRs registered against him

MUMBAI| On Thursday the Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami moved to Supreme court seeking a stay on the FIRs against him in several states for the hate speeches and for defamation of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

On Friday at 10:30 am the Apex Court chaired of justice DY Chandrachud and MR Shah will hear the case.

The states where the FIRs against Goswami are Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Goswami has asked for no coercive measures should be taken on the FIRs registered against him.

Goswami has after the attack filed FIR against the Congress leader to the Maharashtra police. He has submitted the action against him is an attempt to curb free speech and freedom of the Press article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution.

On Thursday, following the FIR filed by Arnab Goswami, Maharashtra Police arrested two police for allegedly attacking Goswami, a day after Congress leaders filed FIRs against the journalist in several states for his comments against party chief Sonia Gandhi on his prime time show.

According to the Goswami, he and his wife were attacked by two men on a bike around 12.15 am on Thursday night and blamed the Congress. Congress party has denied all the charges. Goswami created a video in his video he said his security guards told him the attackers were allegedly Youth Congress workers.

While addressing the media after the attack on Arnab Goswami, Party general secretary in charge of organisation KC Venugopal said, “Not a single Congressman is involved….this is not our tradition, not our culture”.

Meanwhile, Abhinash Kumar, the deputy commissioner of police, said, “Both the accused were arrested immediately with the help of security personnel with Goswami.”
