New Delhi | Arun Jaitley on Thursday will resume his work as the Union Finance and Cooperate Affairs Minister after a three-month break from surgery.
Jaitley who was suffering from a kidney ailment had stopped attending office in April for a renal transplant operation on May 14. In his absence, railway minister Piyush Goyal was temporarily assigned the finance and corporate affairs portfolio.
In a press communique released from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday informed about Jaitley reassignment. “The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Shri Arun Jaitley,” noted the press communique.
The leader of Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley has been an influential minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet. Jaitley has been active on social media, from taking on opposition parties to writing on issues including cuts to the goods and services tax rates.
