ISRO chairman Dr. K. Sivan said that the speed of Chandrayaan 2 has to be lowered for a smooth landing.
New Delhi| India is just one step away from the successful moon landing of its ambitious project Chandrayaan 2. Today, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will set the Chandrayaan 2 into the lunar orbit between 8.30 to 9.30 AM. This is one of the crucial steps in the entire mission. If it fails, Chandrayaan 2 can bounce off into deep space instead of landing on the moon.
On July 22, India launched Chandrayaan 2 through rocket Bahubali from Sriharikota Launch Center. Earlier on August 14, Chandrayaan-2 was put in the Trans Lunar Orbit.
Lowering the speed of Chandrayaan 2
ISRO chairman Dr. K. Sivan said that the speed of Chandrayaan 2 has to be lowered for a smooth landing. He said that Moon’s gravitational power is upto 65000 KM. If Chandrayaan 2 approaches the moon with current speed, it will be bounced off and will be lost in deep space. However, if the speed is lowered Moon’s gravity will pull it to the surface.
Chandrayaan-2 will continue to revolve around the moon till August 31 after entering the moon’s orbit. During this time, there will be a change in the orbit once again. To bring Chandrayaan-2 to the nearest orbit of the moon, the orbits will be changed four times.
