Bihar Cop Suspended For Making Guard Do Squats Who Stopped Govt. Officer’s Car

The cop, as seen in the video that went viral, asked the guard to do sit-ups and fall at the feet of an agriculture officer whose vehicle he had stopped.

Patna| A police officer in Araria district of Bihar was suspended for humiliating an on-duty guard for stopping the vehicle of government officials amid the coronavirus lockdown. The cop, as seen in the video that went viral, asked the guard to do sit-ups and fall at the feet of an agriculture officer whose vehicle he had stopped.

Gupteshwar Pandey, Director General of Police said that Additional Sub Inspector of Police Govind Singh has been suspended for his inhuman behavior with home guard jawan who was posted as a village chowkidar.

Pandey told news agency PTI, “I called up the chowkidar and apologised on behalf of the erring police official since it is imperative that we do not allow the morale of any of our personnel to sag.”

The incident happened on Monday under Jokihat police station jurisdiction of Araria district, where home guard Ganesh Lal stopped the vehicle of district agriculture officer Manoj Kumar. The vehicle was apparently plying without a valid pass. Kumar, who was accompanied by juniors, was offended by the guard asking them about their pass.

ASI Govind Singh also reached the spot in a while and joined the officer in belittling the guard for doing his job.

In a video that went viral, Kumar and Singh could be heard telling the guard to perform 50 squats and fall at the feet of the agriculture officer. They were also heard threatening the guard of dismissal.

DGP Pandey said infuriated, “Even if the chowkidar was guilty of any wrongdoing, such public humiliation would have still been unwarranted. This is against basic human dignity.”

On the other hand, the agriculture department has demanded a report from the district administration including Manoj Kumar’s response to the show-cause notice issued in his name after the incident.

“We are awaiting the report. Based on its findings, the district agriculture officer could face suspension or other disciplinary action,” Prem Kumar, Bihar’s agriculture minister told news agency PTI.
