As BJP Deliberates Leadership Change, Dhan Singh Rawat Likely To Become New CM Of Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will meet the Governor today possibly to resign from the position.

With the saffron party deliberating a leadership change in Uttarakhand, state minister Dhan Singh Rawat has emerged as a frontrunner to replace Trivendra Singh Rawat as chief minister. As per sources, the BJP is also supposed to bring in a deputy chief minister, who will be from the Kumaon region.

Sources said Pushkar Singh Dhami is likely to be deputy chief minister. The central leadership of the BJP had recently sent two observers, party vice president Raman Singh and general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam to Uttarakhand. They were tasked with the duty to get feedback from the party’s core group in the state amid reports of discontent against the chief minister.

Earlier in the day, reports suggested that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will meet the Governor today possibly to resign from the position. He had met party leadership yesterday in Delhi. He has also announced a press meet where he may announce his resignation before meeting with Governor Baby Rani Maurya.

According to reports, the observers rated him “below average” and felt that his leadership would bring down the party in the Uttarakhand polls due by February.

Mr Rawat had met with party President JP Nadda, who had earlier met with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the situation.

After these reports, Dhan Singh Rawat is reportedly flying to state capital Dehradun from Garhwal via private chopper.
