BMC Halts Vaccination Drive In Mumbai For 3 Days Amid Shortage

“Owing to non-availability of vaccine stock, no vaccination will be conducted at any Govt/BMC/Pvt CVC for the next 3 days (30 Apr-2 May) All efforts are being made to make more stock available & resume the drive.” the tweet from BMC said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday tweeted that the vaccination drive will be halted in the city starting 30th April till 2nd May due to the non-availability of vaccine stock.

“Owing to non-availability of vaccine stock, no vaccination will be conducted at any Govt/BMC/Pvt CVC for the next 3 days (30 Apr-2 May) All efforts are being made to make more stock available & resume the drive.” the tweet from BMC said.

Both, the BMC Commissioner and Maharashtra government have made it very clear that the third phase of the vaccination drive that’s supposed to start on May 1 will not go ahead as per schedule.

“We have always aimed at vaccinating one lakh a day, but have not been able to touch the target. I have therefore taken it up with the state government that we would like to begin the mass vaccination drive only once there is enough availability of vaccines for all,” BMC Commissioner I S Chahal told TOI.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is witnessing a plateaued COVID-19 graph with cases under 4000 being reported for almost a week now. Deaths in the city, however, have climbed up to 82 in the last 24 hours.
