Mumbai| More than 24 hours after the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops took place in Galwan valley of Eastern Ladakh, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh broke his silence on Twitter.
“The loss of soldiers in Galwan is deeply disturbing and painful. Our soldiers displayed exemplary courage and valour in the line of duty and sacrificed their lives in the highest traditions of the Indian Army,” the Defense Minister said.
Mourning over the loss of lives, Singh said, “The Nation will never forget their bravery and sacrifice. My heart goes out to the families of the fallen soldiers. The nation stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this difficult hour. We are proud of the bravery and courage of India’s Bravehearts.”
At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the violent face-off that erupted between Indian and Chinese troops on Monday night at Galwan valley in eastern Ladakh. The casualty numbers could grow, government sources were quoted saying by news agency ANI.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs had confirmed that there have been casualties on both sides during the skirmish that broke out on LAC on Monday night.
“On the late-evening and night of 15th June 2020, a violent face-off happened as a result of an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change the status quo there. Both sides suffered casualties that could have been avoided had the agreement at the higher level been scrupulously followed by the Chinese side.” Anurag Srivastava, the MEA spokesperson said.
Countering China’s claim of Indian soldiers entering the Chinese Territory, the MEA said, “India is very clear that all its activities are always within the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control. We expect the same of the Chinese side.”
As per the official statement, Major Generals of both sides held talks to deescalate the situation after the face-off.
