Case Registered Against Wasim Rizvi For Inflammatory Statements At Dharam Sansad

Haridwar: At the Haridwar ‘Dharam Sansad’ or religious assembly Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, formerly known as Wasim Rizvi made some inflammatory statements against Islam. For his remarks, the Uttarakhand Police has registered a case against him. The religious assembly at Haridwar is now being referred as “Hate Assembly”, sparked a row after videos of Hindu leaders making provocative speeches and inciting violence against minority communities surfaced on social media.

Jitendra Narayan Tyagi has been accused of deliberately hurting the religious sentiments of crores of people who believe in Islam. The speech was broadcast live on Facebook.

Following this, an FIR was lodged by Gulbahar Khan against Jitendra Narayan Tyagi at Haridwar Kotwali.

The Uttarakhand Police tweeted (in Hindi), “Taking cognizance of the video that is going viral on social media for spreading hatred by giving provocative speeches against a particular religion, a case has been registered against Wasim Rizvi alias Jitendra Narayan Tyagi and others under Section 153A IPC in Kotwali Haridwar and legal proceedings are in progress.”

The three-day assembly was organised by Yati Narsinghanand, a controversial Hindutva figure known to make communal statements. The assembly was held from December 17 to December 19.

Earlier, RTI activist and Trinamool leader Saket Gokhale said that he has filed a complaint with the SHO of Jawalapur police station against the organisers and the speakers of the religious gathering.

“Failing the registration of an FIR against the organisers and speakers in 24 hours, a plaint shall be made to the judicial magistrate,” Gokhale tweeted.

Videos of the religious assembly, being referred to as ‘Haridwar Hate Assembly’, have been shared several times on social media. Several leaders condemned the event and called for action against the organisers.

Congress leader Dr Shama Mohamed tweeted, “Munawar Faruqui has been relentlessly punished for alleged jokes which he didn’t even crack, but there is no action against the ‘Dharm Sansad’ members who openly called for genocide against Muslims in Haridwar! Is India still a democracy!”

Meanwhile, amidst the outrage over the ‘Dharma Sansad’, the Uttarakhand Police said that they are keeping an eye on the situation and action will be taken keeping in mind peace and order in the state. The police claimed they couldn’t file an FIR as no one had put in any complaint until now.

Haridwar Superintendent of Police Swatantra Kumar Singh said, “The police are monitoring the situation.”
