The Chief Justice had said 2 days ago that the CBI and IB do not take action when lower court judges complain of receiving threats.
The CBI has arrested five people in connection with controversial posts on social media about Andhra Pradesh High Court and Supreme Court judges. It is being reported that CBI has arrested 2 people from Andhra Pradesh in this case on Saturday, while 3 accused had already been arrested. This action has taken place after the harsh remarks of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana regarding the investigating agencies.
The Chief Justice had said 2 days ago that the CBI and IB do not take action when lower court judges complain of receiving threats. The Chief Justice made the remarks during the hearing of the murder case of a district judge of Dhanbad (Jharkhand) on Friday.
The CJI had said- Investigating agencies do not help at all
The Chief Justice had said, “The CBI did nothing. We were expecting some change in the attitude of the CBI, but it did not happen. It is a pity to describe such a situation.”
With this comment, the CJI had asked the central government to respond to the pending petition regarding the protection of judges within a week. The CJI had also said that the investigating agencies do not help at all. He said, “I am saying this with some sense of responsibility. Something must be done.”
YSR Congress MPs Nandigam Suresh and Amanchi Krishna Mohan are also under investigation in connection with the controversial posts on judges. CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said the role of an MP and some former MLAs was also being investigated to probe a major conspiracy. However, their names are not in the FIR.
In this case, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had ordered the central investigation agency to investigate and submit a report in a sealed envelope. After which the CBI had registered a case against 16 accused. Apart from the 5 accused arrested, investigation is being carried out against the rest.
