CBSE Removes Chapters On Secularism, Nationalism & Citizenship From The Syllabus

“Democracy and Diversity”, “Caste, Religion and Gender”, and “Challenges to Democracy” chapters have also been dropped from the class 10 syllabus.

New Delhi| Important chapters like Democratic Rights, Food Security in India, Federalism, Citizenship, and Secularism were dropped from school courses in the national education board CBSE’s attempt to reduce the burden on students amid the coronavirus crisis.

Because of the “extraordinary situation” due to coronavirus pandemic, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Tuesday that the syllabus for 2020-21 would be reduced by a third.

Economics and Political Science courses for grades 9 to 12 have been revised by the board.

Federalism, Citizenship, Nationalism, and Secularism are some of the chapters that are “completely deleted” from the Class 11 Political Science syllabus.

Only two units namely ‘Why do we need Local Governments?’ and ‘Growth of Local Government in India’ have been removed from the ‘Local Government’ chapter.

“Security in the Contemporary World”, “Environment and Natural Resources”, “Social and New Social Movements in India”, and “Regional Aspirations” have also been entirely removed from the Political Science syllabus of class 12.

Units elaborating “changing nature of India’s economic development” and “Planning Commission and Five Year Plans” have also been removed from the “Planned Development” chapter.

The board has also deleted “India’s Relations with its Neighbours: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar” for the present session from the chapter on India’s Foreign Policy.

Democratic Rights and Structure of the Indian Constitution have also been removed from Class 9 political science syllabus. The board has also completely removed chapter of Food Security in India from the Economics syllabus.

“Democracy and Diversity”, “Caste, Religion and Gender”, and “Challenges to Democracy” chapters have also been dropped from the class 10 syllabus.
