CDS Rawat No More, Succumbs In Coonoor Chopper Crash

Coonoor: CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat passed away in the Chopper Crash at Coonoor. An Army Chopper carrying CDS Bipin Rawat and his family has crashed in Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. Fourteen people were on board including his staff and some family members were present in the Mi-series chopper that crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu. Thirteen out of Fourteen people have passed away. Until now Group Captain Varun Singh is the only survivor of the tragic incident. 

Rawat was very critical and was taken to Wellington hospital where he took his last breath. 

The sad demise news has been announced by the Indian Air Force. Indian Air Force Tweeted a thread, “Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Nilgiri Hills) to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course today.”
“Around noon today, an IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter with a crew of 4 members carrying the CDS and 9 other passengers met with a tragic accident near Coonoor, TN,” the tweet read.
“With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident,” the tweet read.
“Gp Capt Varun Singh SC, Directing Staff at DSSC with injuries is currently under treatment at Military Hospital, Wellington,” further tweeted.

CDS Bipin Rawat was on the way to Defence Staff College in Wellington from the Indian Air Force base in Sulur near Coimbatore. Along with eight others, he boarded a flight from Delhi to Sulur earlier on Wednesday. Along with others, he boarded a flight from Delhi to Sulur earlier on Wednesday.

Gen Bipin Rawat had survived a Cheetah helicopter crash in Dimapur, Nagaland on February 3, 2015. He was a lieutenant general at that time.
