Chopper Carrying CDS Bipin Rawat Crashes At Coonoor

Coonoor: An Army Chopper carrying Defence officials has crashed at Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor, on Wednesday. Fourteen people were on board. Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Laxman Singh Rawat, and his wife were on Board. Three of them have been rescued, the search operation is being carried on to look out for other people.

The three who have been rescued suffered serious injuries and have been taken to Wellington cantonment in Nilgiris district.

From the site, two bodies have been recovered.

Indian Air Force has stated that an Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident. IAF tweeted, “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
