“Commend Your Leadership”: Bill Gates Writes To PM Modi Amid Crisis

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates has written to PM Narendra Modi praising his leadership in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, government sources said.

The billionaire philanthropist in his letter to Prime Minister Modi said: “We commend your leadership and the proactive measures you and your government have taken to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 infection rate in India,”

Bill Gates applauded India’s measures of imposing a countrywide shutdown, increasing focused testing to classify hotspots for isolation, quarantining, and care, and significantly raising health expenditures to strengthen the health system response and promote R&D and digital innovation.

Bill Gates praises the use of Arogya Setu App in the battle against COVID-19 in the letter, as per government sources.

“Grateful to see that you’re seeking to balance public health imperatives with the need to ensure adequate social protection for all Indians,” the letter added.

On Thursday, the total number of Coronavirus positive cases in India surged to 21,393, according to government data.

41 new COVID-19 deaths and 1,409 infections have been reported in 24 hours, as per the health ministry’s latest update.

The total cases include 16,454 active cases, 4257 cured/discharged/migrated and 681 deaths as per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

After PM Modi on April 14 in a televised address to the nation announced extension saying it was required to continue the fight against coronavirus, the nation will be under 19-day extended lockdown until May 3rd.

The global death toll from the coronavirus has now crossed over 1,80,000 people, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

At least 184,000 people have died from novel coronavirus and more than 2.6 million cases have been confirmed worldwide.
