Congress Launches ‘INC TV’, Its Own Digital Media Platform

The move to start a digital platform is seen as the Congress’ bid to hit back at the ‘partisan’ media which have been heavily favoring the BJP.

The Congress party launched it’s own digital media platform, ‘INC TV’ today with an aim to convey the party’s “message directly to the people ” and to raise issues of importance. Official operations will begin on 24th April, also observed as National Panchayati Raj Day in memory of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, on INC TV’s YouTube channel, said Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala in a press conference accompanied by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev. A former senior journalist is expected to be at the helm of INC TV’s affairs.

The INC TV YouTube channel, as of Wednesday afternoon published 4 videos including a brief history of the party itself and a tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. The channel will also showcase the speeches and thoughts of Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, and other senior leaders as well. In a rather ambitious plan, the channel will be round the clock on the news and live stream all its programs for 24 hours.

The move to start a digital platform is seen as the Congress’ bid to hit back at the ‘partisan’ media which have been heavily favoring the BJP and create a space for themselves that they weren’t getting in the mainstream media. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on many occasions has stated the ‘godi’ media doesn’t show “their side of the story.” The party felt that there is a need to articulate its views and thoughts and reach the masses on their own, especially with the strong bias in the ‘mainstream media’ stacked against them.

Since social media has become such an integral tool for political parties to interact with the masses in today’s times, Congress, in a bid to gain an edge over its rival has upped its social media game by being very aggressive on Twitter and Facebook. INC TV is, the party believes, a counter to ‘NaMo TV’ that had floated around the time of the 2019 General Elections. As per a news report,  there seem to be some disagreements within the party over the channel’s launch with questions being asked of how wide its reach is expected to be.

Senior Congress Leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi welcomed INC TV’s launch and said Decision to setup INC TV is indeed a welcome step & shall help 2 convey our messages directly to public”

For now the grand old party is hopeful of INC TV’s success and hopes to take on the BJP’s mighty presence across platforms and also hopes for some electoral gains in the upcoming elections.
