Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The MP from Wayanad tweeted that he had mild symptoms.

“After experiencing mild symptoms, I’ve just tested positive for COVID. All those who’ve been in contact with me recently, please follow all safety protocols and stay safe,” Mr Gandhi tweeted.

This comes a few days after the Congress leader, in the wake of the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in the country, had canceled all his public rallies in poll-bound West Bengal. The leader had also urged other political leaders to think about the consequences of holding large public rallies.

“In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances,” Mr Gandhi had tweeted.

Earlier on Sunday, Former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh had tested positive for the coronavirus. Following the detection, he was admitted to AIIMS Delhi. Dr Singh, a day ago had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi advising him to ramp up the vaccination.

For last 6 straight days, India has been recording over 2 lakh cases of infections. In the total number of cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic, India is second only to the United States.
