Congress, Left, Farmers’ Leaders Slam Govt Over Climate Activist Disha Ravi’s Arrest, Demand Immediate Release

Disha Ravi is one of the founders of the Friday for Future Campaign. The Delhi court has sent her to the custody of the special cell for 5 days.

New Delhi| Farmers and Congress leaders have started protesting the arrest of 22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram questioned whether the toolkit supporting farmers is more dangerous than Chinese intrusion into Indian border? Farmer leader Darshan Pal said that Disha should be released unconditionally immediately. Meena Harris, the niece of US Vice-President Kamala Harris, also wrote on social media asking why the government is targeting activists.

Disha was arrested from Bengaluru on Sunday in the case of a toolkit shared by Greta Thunberg in support of the farmer movement. Sweden’s activist Greta shared this toolkit on her social media account. Police allege that Disha circulated the toolkit. Police are also looking for two more suspects in the case. For this, raids are being conducted from place to place.

India has become a platform for absurd things- Chidambaram

Reacting to Disha’s arrest, Chidambaram said that India is becoming a platform of absurd things. “It is very sad that Delhi Police has become a puppet in the hands of dictators,” he said. On the arrest of Disha, former Union Minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “This is a cheap act. It is harassment and bullying.” Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, “Disha Ravi’s arrest is a new step in the way political protests and ideological freedom are being attacked to suppress the farmers’ movement in India. Does the Indian government have to tarnish its image in the world or it Doesn’t care at all?”

Left leader Sitaram Yechury said that Modi govt thinks that the farmers’ struggle will be weakened by arresting the granddaughter of the farmers. Indeed, these arrests will awaken the youth of the country and strengthen democracy. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said, “The question is when those people will be arrested, who are breaking the unity of the country and society in the morning and evening with the toolkit of their words. Those who are promoting hate and division.”

Farmer leader Darshan Pal Singh said, “Samyukta Kisan Morcha opposes the arrest of the youth climate activists who supported the farmers. We demand that he be released as soon as possible and unconditionally.”

Priyanka Gandhi Comes Out In Disha’s Support

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also come out in support of Disha. She slammed the police and the central government on social media. He wrote that the Modi govt is scared of an unarmed girl.

Meena Harris reacts to Disha’s arrest

Meena Harris has also targeted the central government over the arrest of Climate Activist Disha Ravi. Meena wrote on social media, “Indian authorities have arrested another female activist Disha Ravi, because she posted a social media toolkit to support the farmers’ protest. The government should ask why are they targeting activists?”

Disha Ravi sent to 5-day custody

Disha Ravi is one of the founders of the Friday for Future Campaign. The Delhi court has sent her to the custody of the special cell for 5 days. The police brought her to the Dwarka office of the cyber cell at 4:30 pm on Sunday. She will be interrogated further here. According to the Delhi Police, Disha herself created the toolkit by creating a Google Document and circulated it. For this, she formed a WhatsApp group.
