Coronavirus Cases in India Crosses 35000-Mark, Death Toll At 1,147

Over 1,100 people have died due to COVID-19 in India and more than 35,000 cases have been recorded in the country so far, as per the government.

New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 35,043, including 8,888 cured/discharged/migrated and 1,147 deaths as India is in the final days of the 40-day lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, 73 casualties were recorded, highest so far.

A staggering 1,993 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, has climbed to 10,498 with 459 deaths.

Mumbai figures also jumped past 6,000-mark.

Follows Gujarat with 4,395 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, second highest in the country.

Across the country, as 8,888 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 25%.

A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases neared 3,200,000 while the death toll crossed 233,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has entered into a grim situation as it recorded its one-millionth case of COVID-19, about one-third of the entire world’s caseload, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
