Coronavirus Cases In India Inch Closer To 28000, Death Toll At 872

1,396 new cases of COVID-19 and 48 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours in India taking the tally to 27,892 and death toll to 872.

New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 27,892, including 6184 cured/discharged/migrated and 872 deaths as India is in the final days of the 40-day lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19.

1,396 new cases of COVID-19 and 48 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.

The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, has climbed to 8,068 with 342 deaths.

A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with all Chief Ministers via video conference today to discuss the situation in states/union territories due to COVID-19, amid signs that the discussions could also focus on a graded exit from the ongoing lockdown.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases nears 3 million while the death toll crossed 2.06 lakh, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States alone accounted for over 9.65 lakh COVIID-19 cases while the death toll in the country has neared 55,000-mark.
