Coronavirus India Toll Jumps To 258, Highest Ever Cases Recorded In A Day

Maharashtra recorded 49 new cases as per the data published by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. However, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the number of cases in the state has gone up to 52.

 

New Delhi| The total number of Coronavirus Cases in the country has gone up to 258 including 39 foreign nationals. On Friday, India also recorded the highest ever Coronavirus infections in a day with 50 cases.

Maharashtra recorded 49 new cases as per the data published by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. However, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the number of cases in the state has gone up to 52. In light of the increasing number of cases Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday announced shutdown in four cities including Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nagpur. He said that offices and shops will be closed till March 31. However, essential services like Buses and railways will run uninterruptedly.

Meanwhile, cases in Delhi soared up to 25. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced closure of malls and also ordered that all non-public activities of the state government to stop.

Kerala ranks second with 33 Coronavirus positive cases in the state. For two days the state did not witness any new infection case. However on Friday it reported fresh cases of infection. The state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the central govt to increase the borrowing limit of the state so they can increase the wages under MNREGA.

Uttar Pradesh has so far reported 23 cases. Singer Kanika Kapoor who recently travelled to London has tested positive for Coronavirus and is now taking treatment in Lucknow hospital. After coming to India, she attended few parties which has raised the possibility of infections to other attendees. UP govt is tracking all of them and their samples will be tested for virus.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to Coronavirus in the country stands at 4 with one death each reported in Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Karnataka. On Friday an Italian national who was cured of Coronavirus in Jaipur died. However, the reason for death is not confirmed yet.
