India reported 43,263 new coronavirus cases and 338 deaths in the last 24 hours ending at 8 AM on Thursday. With this, the country’s tally of cases rose to 3.31 crore (3,31,39,981), while the death toll increased to 4.41 lakh (4,41,749). Over 40,000 (40,567) patients recovered from coronavirus, taking the active number of cases to 3.91 lakh (3,93,614).

Out of the new cases and deaths reported in the last 24 hours in India, Kerala recorded 30,196 cases and 181 deaths yesterday. Kerala Cabinet has decided to set up a vaccine manufacturing zone at the Life Science Park, Thonnakkal in Thiruvananthapuram district.

Also, yesterday India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage crossed the 71-crore landmark (71,52,54,153). More than 73 lakh (73,80,510) doses were administered till Wednesday. More than 15 lakh doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered in Maharashtra on Wednesday, setting a new record in the state, Dr Pradeep Vyas, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) told ANI.

Mumbai on Wednesday recorded 530 new coronavirus positive cases, the highest since mid-July this year, and four fatalities, a senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. With this, the city’s infection count rose to 7,47,608 and death toll to 16,004.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged rich countries with large supplies of coronavirus vaccines to refrain from offering booster shots through the end of the year and make the doses available for poorer countries.

“I will not stay silent when companies and countries that control the global supply of vaccines think the world’s poor should be satisfied with leftovers,” he told a news conference.
