COVID-19 Cases In India Cross 10,000-Mark, Doubled In Six Days

As India today crossed the 10,000-mark while COVID-19 cases reached 10,363, Prime Minister Modi extended the lockdown until 3rd May.

New Delhi: The total number of COVID-19 cases in India spiked to 10,363, with 339 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry.

31 people have died and 1,211 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours alone.

Prime Minister while announcing the lockdown extension said that states and citizens have suggested extending the lockdown.

Prime Minister said, “keeping everything in mind we have decided to extend the lockdown until 3rd May.”

Prime Minister says that whatever relaxations granted during the shutdown to some areas will be upon conditions. And even if there is one new case reported in the area, the relaxations will be taken back.

India reached the 10,000-mark in cases today, doubling the number from six days ago. The govt is developing containment efforts and ramping up testing in an attempt to curb the highly infectious virus from spreading across the country.

1,253 fresh novel coronavirus cases were reported in the country on Monday. The national capital recorded its highest daily spike with 356 cases. Delhi has reported 1,510 cases so far, becoming the city with the highest number of infections.

In Maharashtra, the number of coronavirus cases crossed the 2,000-mark on Monday, with 352 more people, including 242 from Mumbai, testing positive for the COVID-19 infection, a Health department official said.

The total number of cases went up to 2,334, the death toll rose to 160 with 11 more people dying due to the infection on Monday. Cases in Maharashtra doubled in 7 days from 1,000 to 2,000.

The global infections have crossed the two-million mark while leaving 119,718 people dead.
