COVID-19 Cases Near 40,000-Mark as India Records Over 2,500 Cases In 24 Hrs

Over 1,300 people have died due to COVID-19 in India and total cases near 40,000-mark with 2,644 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 39,980 including 10,633 cured/discharged/migrated and 1,301 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, 83 casualties were recorded, highest so far.

A staggering 2,644 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, has climbed to 12,296 with 521 deaths.

Mumbai figures also jumped past 8,000-mark.

Follows Gujarat with 5,054 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, second highest in the country.

Across the country, as 10,633 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 25%.

A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 3,400,000 while the death toll crossed 243,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has entered into a grim situation as it recorded its one-millionth case of COVID-19, about one-third of the entire world’s caseload, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
