Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visits flood affected Kodagu regions of Karnataka

Kodagu | Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday visited the flood-affected regions of Kodagu district in Karnataka and reviewed the situation with district officials and locals.

Sitharaman also visited the flood relief & rehabilitation camp run by Seva Bharati at Madikeri in Kodagu and assured support for the restoration work.


Addressing the event in Kodagu, Sitharaman said, “I have come from Delhi as the restoration of some of the roads, buildings, water and electricity connections in Kodagu will be done by the army and the Air Force is trying to help as well in the relief operations.”

“I am a member of Parliament from Karnataka. I want to offer Rs 1 crore of my MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) for Kodagu district,” Sitharaman told media. The Defence Minister further added,”I’ll definitely meet Nitin Gadkari to discuss the roads. I’ll speak to Home Minister because he takes care of National Disaster Relief Funding & I’ll certainly go back to Prime Minister to give him a report of what I’ve seen here.”

Earlier Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Rs 100 crore relief fund for the Kodagu district. Kodagu, also known as Coorg has been widely affected by torrential rains.
