Dilbag Singh replace SP Vaid as Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief

Srinagar | The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday announced the transfer of Director General of Police SP Vaid as State’s Transport Commissioner. Director General of Prison, Dilbag Singh is been given the additional charge of the post until the appointment of a new chief.

SP Vaid’s transfer has come after the relatives of 10 police officers were kidnapped by the terrorist. After the intervention of the governor’s office, the family members were released in exchange for family members of terrorists, including the father of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Riaz Naikoo detained by the police.

Responding to the transfer of Vaid, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah tweeted, “There was no hurry to replace SP Vaid He should have been changed only when a permanent arrangement had been worked out. Jammu and Kashmir police has enough problems without having to deal with the confusion of leadership.”

Vaid, a 1986-batch Indian Police Services (IPS) officer who is set to retire in October 2019 was appointed DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police in December 2016. Earlier state intelligence chief Abdul Gani Mir was also replaced by Dr. B Srinivas.

The State of Jammu and Kashmir is under the President’s rule after the BJP withdrew its support from the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government in June this year. After the completion of Amarnath Yatra, Satya Pal Malik was appointed as the new governor in place of NN Vohra.
