Dilip Ghosh replaced by Sukanta Majumdar as President

Kolkata: West Bengal unit President Dilip Ghosh was replaced by Sukanta Majumdar on Monday. This move comes two days after BJP MP Babul Supriyo joined the Trinamool Congress. Dilip Ghosh has been made the National Vice-President.

The appointment was made by BJP national president JP Nadda and will come into immediate effect. After the appointment Dilip Ghosh congratulated and wished Sukanta Majumdar on securing the post of  state president of the Bengal BJP.

There is a big debate going on the replacement some say that he has been sacked whereas some say the he has been elevated from his position.

Sukanta Majumdar is a first time MP, who represents the Lok Sabha constituency of Balurghat in Bengal. The 41-year-old has his task cut out because his appointment comes just ten days before the high-profile Bhabanipur bypoll where the BJP hopes to take down state chief minister Mamata Banerjee for a second time from her seat in the 2021 assembly elections.

Recently, the party had appointed Sukanta Majumdar overall in-charge of the seats of Samserganj and Jangipur, which are also to go to polls on September 30, the same day as Bhabanipur.

Since the Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year in which the BJP had targeted 200 seats but got only 77, four MLAs have already returned to Trinamool.

Supriyo, after joining Trinamool on Saturday, publicly said Dilip Ghosh, infamous for outrageous and controversial statements, was to blame for the BJP’s debacle in the elections.

The most recent high-profile defection was of Mr Supriyo, a Union Minister till recently who contested the state polls unsuccessfully and then was benched from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

Before him, three MLAs – Biswajit Das, Tanmoy Ghosh, Soumen Roy – jumped to the Trinamool in the last one month within six days.
