New Delhi| The government on Wednesday approved increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central employees by 5%. Now it has increased from 12% to 17%. The 5% increase in DA will benefit 50 lakh employees and 62 lakh, pensioners. The increase in DA will come into effect from July. That is, employees and pensioners will get 3 months arrears. The government will spend 16 thousand crores on increase in DA. After the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar informed about this decision. He said that this is the highest ever increase in DA by the Central Government.

Cabinet decisions
- Javadekar told that the cabinet has also approved to increase the allowance of Asha workers from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 thousand.
- Also, it has been decided to give Rs 5.5 lakh per family to 5,300 displaced families of Jammu and Kashmir. These are families who first decided to move out of the state but later returned under the government’s rehabilitation package.
- It was decided to extend the deadline for linking Aadhaar number to 30 November to take advantage of Rs 6,000 under the PM-Kisan scheme.
