New Delhi| Prime Minister Modi addressed the people of Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, in the wake of coronavirus crisis and lockdown in the country. He also praised the healthcare personnel working for 24 hours to treat the ones infected with the deadly virus, even when the number of cases keeps rising.

Terming the health professionals as ‘Gods working in white uniform’, PM Modi said, “Healthcare professionals working in white uniforms in hospitals are like God for us today, they are saving us from the disease. They are saving us by risking their own lives.”

He also praised children who are informing their parents about the coronavirus, saying they are playing a big role in letting their parents know what to do and what not to do. He also urged citizens not to treat themselves in case they are sick.

In order to receive authentic information about coronavirus, PM Modi launched a WhatsApp number for citizens.

Addressing the people of his constituency through video conferencing, PM Modi said, “As the MP of Varanasi, I should have been among you in times like these. But you know the things which are going on in Delhi. Despite being busy here, I’ve been taking regular updates about Varanasi from my colleagues.”

“Today is the first day of Navratri, you all must be busy in performing rituals & offering prayers, but still you took out time for this interaction, I’m grateful to all of you. I pray to Goddess Shailputri to give us the strength to fight the country’s battle against coronavirus,” he further added.

Appealing the citizens not to believe in rumours or superstitions and understand facts about coronavirus, PM Modi said that the virus does not differentiate between rich and poor. Stressing on the same, he added, “At times, people don’t pay attention to things that are important. The same is happening in India. I request people to understand the facts and not believe in rumours. Covid-19 doesn’t discriminate between rich and poor; it’ll not spare anyone just because they perform yoga or exercise daily.”

“Mahabharat war was won in 18 days, this war the whole country is fighting against coronavirus will take 21 days. Our aim is to win this war in 21 days,” he further added.
