Mumbai| Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Saturday said that a high-level probe has been ordered into the lynching of three people in Palghar district adjacent to capital Mumbai. Three people, including two sadhus, were killed by an angry mob carrying axes and sticks on Thursday night.
He also informed that 101 people have been arrested till now in regard to this case and the state government will ensure that the guilty face stringent punishment.
“Police have detained 101 people involved in the killing of three Surat-bound people in Palghar. I have also ordered a high-level inquiry into these killings,” Anil Deshmukh tweeted.
The Home Minister, however, warned people against giving any communal colours to this incident and said police will keep an eye on such people who’ll try to create a divide in society because of this incident.

Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, responding on the incident said, “The Palghar incident has been acted upon. The police have arrested all those accused who attacked the two sadhus, one driver and the police personnel on the day of the crime itself. Nobody guilty of this heinous crime and shameful act will be spared and they will be brought to justice in the strongest way possible.”
The grim incident took place when three people were traveling in a car from Mumbai’s Kandivali to Surat for a funeral on Thursday night. The car was stopped by a mob of people in Palghar district and three of them were beaten on the suspicion of theft and kidnapping. The villagers also attacked policemen when they tried to intervene and some of them suffered injuries.
