New Delhi| India will soon officially enter the election season. The Election Commission will address an important press conference at 4:30 pm. The announcements of dates for assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry will be made today. With the announcement of election dates, the model code of conduct in these states will come into immediate effect.

The announcement is being made a day after the Election Commission officials held a meeting to finalize the election dates. This is the second round of assembly elections after the Coronavirus pandemic induced lockdown. Assembly elections were last held in Bihar in three phases in October and November last year.

While the election dates are yet to be announced in these states including West Bengal, the electoral campaigning is at its peak here. Political campaigning season arrived in West Bengal months ago. Many TMC MPs, Ministers and MLAs joined BJP. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President are aggressively leading the ‘Mission Bengal’ campaign of their party.

Meanwhile, after the resignation of Congress MLAs recently, Narayanasamy’s government in Puducherry was reduced to a minority. He faced a floor test but was unable to muster a majority. He then resigned from his post. The BJP refused to form the government. In view of this, the Union Cabinet approved the recommendation of the President’s rule.
