Election Commission Orders To Remove Hoardings With PM Modi’s Image At Petrol Pumps In Poll-Bound States

At present, PM Modi’s photographs are included in the advertisement of government schemes on petrol pumps.

The Election Commission has concluded that hoardings bearing photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at petrol pumps in the five poll-bound states, violate the Model Code of Conduct. The commission has asked for all such hoardings to be removed within 72 hours.

At present, PM Modi’s photographs are included in the advertisement of government schemes on petrol pumps. The Election Commission announced the dates for the assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry on 26 February. With this, the model code of conduct has come into force in all these states.

TMC objected to vaccination certificate

On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the electoral state of West Bengal has objected to PM Modi’s photo on the certificate received after the coronavirus vaccination. The opposition, including TMC, termed it a BJP campaign ahead of the assembly elections in 5 states.

TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien said on Wednesday, “The election date has been announced. In such a situation, it is not right to put the photo of the Prime Minister in the Corona Vaccine Certificate. Our party will take up this issue with the Election Commission.”
