New Delhi| The Election Commission of India will conduct a press conference at 12.30 pm today. It may announce the dates of Bihar assembly elections in the press conference. It is expected to announce the dates for bypolls on 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh. The term of the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly expires on 29 November.

Last time elections in Bihar were held in 5 phases. This time due to Coronavirus, elections can be held in 2 to 3 stages. In the 2015 elections, the RJD, JDU and Congress formed a grand alliance together. The alliance won 178 seats. But, after a year and a half, Nitish broke away from the Grand Alliance and moved to the NDA. In this election, JDU is contesting with BJP, LJP and HAM (Secular) as a part of NDA. At the same time, the RLSP, which was part of the NDA in the last election, is with the Grand Alliance.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, NDA won 39 seats out of 40 in Bihar. The Congress candidate won only one seat. If you look at the results of the Lok Sabha according to the constituency, the NDA had an edge over 223 seats. Out of these, BJP was leading in 92 seats and JDU in 96 seats. The LJP was leading in 35 seats.
