Encounter breaks out in J&K’s Ramban area, three militants killed

Local citizens of Batot reported that the terrorists who attempted to stop the bus were in civil dress, with guns in their hands.

 

Srinagar| The security forces today gunned down three militants in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir in an encounter. According to the police, 5 militants were reported to be present in the Batot area. Three of them hid in a house. The terrorists took a citizen hostage. After this, the police, army and CRPF laid siege to the entire area and launched the operation. The civilian was rescued after an encounter that lasted nearly four hours.

Jammu IG Mukesh Singh said that the encounter which started around 1 pm in Batot Bazar has ended. Three terrorists were killed. The house has no mortgage now. One army soldier was killed in the shootout, while two policemen were injured.

Earlier, a senior CRPF official said that some terrorists had tried to stop a bus near Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway in the morning. But the driver just rushed to the nearest army post and informed about the terrorists. After this, the army and police together started a search operation in Ramban, Doda and Ganderbal areas. On the other hand, the terrorists also attacked the security forces with grenades near the highway in Srinagar.

They escaped towards Batot while firing and entered a house located in the market here. During this period many family members came out, but some people including the chief have been taken hostage by the terrorists.
