Union leader Yogendra Yadav while addressing a press conference said, “Farmers will conduct a tractor march on the Outer Ring Road in Delhi on Republic Day.”
New Delhi| Farmers’ stir against the agricultural laws passed by the Centre continues. The farmers have announced that they will take out a tractor rally in Delhi on January 26, Republic Day, but to stop this, the Delhi Police has approached the Supreme Court, which will be heard today.
Farmers’ unions demonstrating against the agricultural laws said that they would take out their proposed tractor parade in Delhi on the occasion of Republic Day. They also said that they are committed to continue their agitation till the agricultural laws are repealed. On the other hand, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar urged them to discuss ‘alternatives’ instead of being stuck on repealing the laws in the next round of talks to be held on 19 January. Today the Supreme Court is also hearing on the issues of agricultural laws.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait told reporters in Nagpur on Sunday that farmers are ready to protest against the new agricultural laws by May 2024 and the farmers’ movement on the borders of Delhi is an ‘ideological revolution’. He said, “We are ready to protest by May 2024. We demand that all three laws be withdrawn and the government provide legal guarantee on the MSP.”
The Supreme Court will hear the issue of agricultural laws on Monday. The court will also hear the petition of the central government, which has been filed through the Delhi Police. The petition has requested the court to issue an order to stop the proposed tractor rally or other similar demonstration of farmers which may disrupt the Republic Day celebrations on 26 January.
Union leader Yogendra Yadav while addressing a press conference at the protest site on the Singhu border said, “We will conduct a tractor march on the Outer Ring Road in Delhi on Republic Day. The parade will be very peaceful. There will be no disruption in the Republic Day parade. Farmers will put the national flag on their tractors.”
