Farmers To Stage Chakka Jam Today; Delhi, UP, Uttarakhand Out of Plan

BKU spokesman Rakesh Tikait said that in Delhi the farmers are camped at borders for last two months resulting in a jam. However, he did not give a reason for keeping UP and Uttarakhand out of the Chakka Jam.

New Delhi| 40 farmers’ organizations opposing the agricultural laws have announced a ‘Chakka Jam’ across the country from 12 to 3 pm today. They have claimed that the protest will be peaceful. Essential services such as ambulances, school buses will not be stopped. The organizations have, however, kept Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand out of this jam.

Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesman Rakesh Tikait said that in Delhi the farmers are camped at borders for last two months resulting in a jam. However, he did not give a reason for keeping UP and Uttarakhand out of the Chakka Jam, although he said that farmers from these two states have been placed on standby and they can be called to the national capital at any time.

Police takes lessons from R-day violence

The administration is more alert this time because of the violence in Delhi on 26 January. In Delhi-NCR, 50 thousand personnel of Police, Paramilitary and Reserve Force have been deployed. All units of CRPF stationed in Delhi have been asked to put an iron mesh on their buses, so that they can be saved in the event of stone pelting. Police has issued an alert to 12 metro stations of Delhi. Here security forces are ready at entry and exit points. Some metro stations may also be closed if violence occurs. There are a total of 285 metro stations in Delhi.

Why was the announcement made?

The farmers’ leaders say that in the budget presented on February 1, their issues were ignored. They are also carrying out the protest opposing the internet ban at the places of protest on the border of Delhi. Farmers’ organizations say that tractors of many farmers have been confiscated since the January 26 tractor rally. Places around the Delhi border are being completely blocked. It will be a jam against all these issues.
