BJP Used Kashmiri Pandits As “Vote Bank”: Farooq Abdullah

Farooq Abdullah added, “Kashmiri Pandits have suffered much after migration. The pain of the Pandit community is countless.”

Srinagar: On Saturday former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah slammed BJP, and said that the party uses Kashmiri Pandits as a ‘Vote Bank,’ and has done nothing for them. Abdullah’s statement came after the minority cell of the J&K National Conference (NC), of which he is the chairman, moved and passed three resolutions regarding Kashmiri Pandits.

“The Kashmiri migrant Pandit community is yearning for their honourable return and rehabilitation for the past three decades. The issue is very important,” senior leader Anil Dhar said as he presented the “politically important” resolutions that were passed by a voice vote.

He says that the National Conference is the only party that can ensure the return and rehabilitation of the Pandits in the valley. “Abdullah should guide the Government of India, which failed to make any headway in this direction till date. We have the roadmap and we are ready to share it with the Centre,” he said.

The minority cell of the political party, through the resolutions, demanded political reservation for Kashmiri Pandits, the passage of the Kashmiri Hindu temple protection bill, and a comprehensive package for return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

Farooq Abdullah also apologized to the Kashmiri Pandit community for not having been able to safeguard them in the 1990s when the Kashmiri Pandit exodus took place. “During NC’s regime, we tried our best to ensure the return of the Pandit community to the Valley, but some elements sabotaged the whole process by executing massacres of Pandits,” he said.

Farooq Abdullah added, “Kashmiri Pandits have suffered much after migration. The pain of the Pandit community is countless.”

He added, “Some forces tried to divide Kashmiri Pandits and the Muslim community. It was not Muslims but self-centered people who forced the Pandits to leave Kashmir. They thought they would get Kashmir after throwing the Pandits out of the Valley. But I assure you that they will never achieve their nefarious designs. I congratulate the people of Jammu for giving shelter to Kashmiri Pandits.”

The J&K leader stated that the Muslim and Hindu communities must now “try to bridge the gap and replace hate with love”. “We all have to clean our minds and try to save J&K. We must not allow anyone to use us for political benefits,” he said.
