First Time BJP Rajya Sabha MP From Karnataka Ashok Gasti Dies of Covid-19

Hospital director Manish Rai said in a statement that Ashok Gasti had developed severe pneumonia due to Covid-19.

 

Bengaluru| Newly elected BJP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti, who was admitted to a private hospital after being infected with Coronavirus, died on Thursday night. He was 55. Gasti was admitted to Manipal Hospital at Old Airport Road on September 2.

Hospital director Manish Rai said in a statement that Gasti had developed severe pneumonia due to Covid-19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted condoling the death of Gasti, “Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti was a dedicated activist who worked hard to strengthen the party in Karnataka. He was passionate about empowering the poor and deprived sections of society. I am saddened by his death. My condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.”

Rai said that Gasti was seriously ill, many of his organs had stopped functioning and he was on the life-support system and a panel of expert doctors was constantly monitoring his health. Rai said, “We are heartbroken by his demise and express condolences to his family and friends.”

Gasti, a grassroots activist and a resident of Raichur, was elected unopposed in June this year on a BJP ticket. Gasti was an RSS activist and an active member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad related to Savita Samaj.

The Rajya Sabha members today offered condolences on his passing away. Rajya Sabha chairman VP Venkaiah Naidu said, “I refer with profound sorrow to the passing away of Ashok Gasti, who was a sitting member of this House from Karnataka. The country has lost an able parliamentarian.”
