Former CBI Chief Ashwini Kumar Found Hanging At His Residence In Shimla

According to the reports, Ashwini Kumar in his suicide note mentioned that being fed up with life, he is leaving for the next journey.

 

Former CBI Chief and former Himachal DGP Ashwini Kumar died by suicide on Wednesday. According to the report, he hanged himself in the house in Shimla. It is suspected he was struggling with depression.

Shimla SP Mohit Chawla confirmed the incident claiming it as a shocking case. Chawla said that Ashwini Kumar was the role model for the police officers.

Kumar left a suicide note

The body of Ashwini Kumar was found hanging in the residence in Shimla. Police have also recovered suicide note from the spot. According to the reports, he has mentioned that being fed up with life, he is leaving for the next journey.

Ashwini Kumar was the Governor of Nagaland from March 2013 to June 2014. He was also the Governor of Manipur for a brief period in 2013. He was the DGP of Himachal Pradesh from August 2006 to July 2008. Between 2 August 2008 and 30 November 2010 he served as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). During that time Amit Shah was arrested in the fake encounter case of Shohrabuddin Sheikh.

Ashwini Kumar was appointed at Special Protection Group (SPG) in 1985 while he was serving as the SP of Shimla. From 1985 to 1990, he held several positions at SPG. He was also an Assistant Director in the PMO. He also worked for Indian intelligence agencies.

Ashwini Kumar was born on 15 November 1950 in Nahan in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. He did his early studies at Government Primary School near Kothi village in Kinnaur district. He then studied at the National Indian Military College Dehradun and the Government College at Bilaspur. He graduated from Government College, Nahan, Himachal Pradesh. He did his PhD in Management from Himachal Pradesh University.
